An insperational Golfer - Ian William Halliwell

Ian William Halliwell will be taking part in the Facebook Community Golf Open

We met up with Ian many months ago now, and have been following his adventures. Next time you moan about an ache, or a pain, take time to read his story, and many others like him, for those participating in the Facebook Community Open, be sure to buy him a drink!!!

Roger Hurcombe (pegleg) & Ian
 Ians story

Where do you start with a golfing legend? He was born on the 24th of April 1958 and graduated from Wigan Grammar School in 1975, he also graduated from Lancaster University in 2002. Unfortunately, he suffered a stroke in 2006 and was left severely disabled as well as being told that he was unlikely to ever play golf again. Prior to his stroke Ian was an avid golfer and had enjoyed many golfing trips to the Costas, Tenerife, Tunisia, and South Africa. However, this did not stop Ian and he starting using golf for therapeutic means and, in an outstanding turn of events, in the space of 3 years has had his own golfing travel book published entitled "The Social Golfer", with all profits going to The Stroke Association.

So far The Social Golfer has raised over £20,000 for The Stroke Association, and has just been added to Amazon and WHSmith’s online stock.

The Social Golfer is also a website and a blog.
Living The Dream
Ian has penned a second book which is set to be released later this year which Ian says is "much more than a golf book, a travelers Almanac as well." All the profits again going to The Stroke Association. The Uk Book Launch will be at The British Par 3 August 2012 and the USA Launch at the Florida Disabilities Open 13th October 2012. It is expected to retail at £19.99 ($29.99) which includes postage and packaging. If you wish to read more about the upcoming book then you can read more at Ian's blog here.

Ian has also sponsored 3 separate week breaks (3 prizes) at his Orlando, Florida Villa as a prize for the Facebook Community Golf Open!

One week to be won for the pairs event
One week to be won by the individual

St Andrews Dukes - Course Guide - Hole 5

Hole 5

Beeches

Par - 4

Men - 299
Women - 277
Stroke index - 12

Pro Tip - The illusion of a narrow fairway is a strong feature of this terrific par 4. There is plenty of landing area to the right side of the left fairway bunker, leaving a relatively short approach into the green. .

The long hitters may fancy getting close to the green, but an accurate shorter tee shot can see you put down a better score!
